Airyca’s Favorite Things #3 – Bahco Laplander Saw

Well, after a week long adventure in the woods, I have to say I’ve always loved my Bahco saw, but it won the MVP blade award for our adventures this week! This little saw is great. I know that a lot of bushcrafters love their hatchets (I too, have one on my wishlist), however this saw, coupled with my BK11 and Leatherman Wave is my simple, yet favorite woodsy combo when I can’t bring a ton of blades. We own a Fiskars hatchet, but the saw out performed it – the saw required less energy and was safer to use in general than the hatchet for our purposes.

We like to burn stuff. Check out the hard wood in the lower right hand corner there, that took a long time to cut, but it burned well!

For our purposes, we were cutting dead trees in the woods here in Oregon for firewood. We weren’t constructing anything fancy, we just needed to process wood fast.

Yay! Stuff to burn! You can see the rejected hatchet in the background!

The Bahco Laplander has an 8 inch blade – and it cut cuts great, it can do dead wood or green wood no problem. The handle is comfy and the blade locks in and out. It is only like 7 or 8 oz at most, so it’s real nice for hiking.

Anyways, that’s it! I highly recommend this saw – it’s not too spendy and it totally worth it’s weight to bring it on your adventures! You can get it on Amazon for just over 20 bucks, or at a local hardware store.
